Ten Ways the Library Can Help You

  1. Request a course-specific library instruction session tailored to the assignment and research needs of your class by the Library Subject Specialist in your discipline.

  2. Encourage your students to take advantage of pre-scheduled library instruction classes. [Schedule]

Introduction to the Library - Library tour & introduction to BobCat

Research Strategies - Search techniques for the electronic library

  3. Refer students to the Term Paper Research Clinics held every fall and spring. Librarians work one-on-one with students to help them develop a research strategy for their topic. [Online appointment form]

  4. Refer freshmen and sophomores who need individualized help in using basic research tools (online catalog; databases for finding articles) to the Undergraduate Librarian.

  5. Refer honors students and upperclassmen doing in-depth research to the Library Subject Specialist in their field for individualized assistance.

  6. Add a link to key library resources on your class web site.

(e.g., research guides in your discipline, library tutorials, email reference service, web evaluation criteria, Term Paper Research Clinics). [Contact the Undergraduate Librarian]

  7. Request multiple copies of printed library guides to distribute in your classes.

Research Guides in anthropology, art, etc. [Contact your Subject Specialist]

  8. Introduce your students to primary sources in the Library's specialized collections, (e.g., archives, manuscripts, government documents). [Contact your Subject Specialist]

  9. Request a presentation of NYU Libraries' services for teaching assistants in your department to introduce them to the library's catalogs, databases, and suggested criteria for evaluating Web sources. [Contact the Head of Instructional Services]

  10. Request a library services update for faculty, e.g., demos of discipline-specific databases for department meetings. [Contact your Subject Specialist]
